Head south to overnight in Auckland in your Budget Campers Motor Home Rentals. Aucklanders enjoy a warm, humid climate and an outdoor lifestyle. One of the best ways to get out and about is to escape to one of the many islands of the Hauraki Gulf and experience their beautiful scenery. Within 40 minutes by ferry of downtown Auckland, visitors can escape to an island experience - Waiheke, Motuihe, Rangitoto - or journey a little further to Tiritiri Matangi, Kawau or Great Barrier.

The Hauraki Gulf experience is complemented by a modern evolving city with restaurants and bars, theatre, art and fashion, a host of new luxury accommodation and a vibrant waterfront. With an infusion of new restaurants and bars, Auckland is a leader in Pacific Rim dining, a style unique to New Zealand - combining fresh seafood and meats with flavours borrowed from Europe, the Mediterranean, Polynesia and Thailand.

Afternoon activities in Auckland could include:

On the water

Options are diverse and can provide visitors with everything from a lesson in sailing to a luxury dining cruise. Take the opportunity to participate in the many water-based activities available:

  • Devonport: take the ferry and enjoy a light cafe lunch and a spot of shopping. The ferry to/from Devonport departs every half hour
  • Cruises: see the harbour from aboard a sailing vessel or ferry. Dinner cruises are available
  • Kayaking: join an evening paddle tour to Rangitoto Island

OR

Shopping

  • Victoria Park Market (within walking distance of most downtown accommodation): see and buy a range of fashion and bric-a-brac
  • Otara market: experience the tastes and flavours of Auckland's large Pacific Island community
  • High Street: downtown Auckland's recently developed High Street offers 'Chancery Lane', featuring top 'designer label' stores. Open seven days. DFS Galleria also has seven-day shopping and is open until 10pm
  • Seven-day shopping: check out the range of Westfield Shopping Malls dotted around Auckland - St Lukes, Henderson, Lynnmall and Manukau. The malls feature most of New Zealand's high street brands
  • Newmarket: visit the area with a reputation as Auckland's trendiest shopping precinct, featuring some of New Zealand's top designers. Outdoor cafes dot the sidewalk
  • Parnell Village: this historic village offers boutique shopping and lunch at sidewalk cafes

Spend the evening in one of Auckland's fine restaurants and experience Pacific-Rim style cuisine.
