North Island
WAITOMO CAVES - AUCKLAND

Highway 3 to Hamilton, and then link up with State Highway 1 for
the journey back to Auckland. En route visitors' options include
the Otorohanga Kiwi House and aviary, where New Zealand's native

On arrival in Auckland, afternoon activity options include:
A visit to Rangitoto Island or Waiheke Island - a
short journey by ferry from downtown Auckland
- Rangitoto Island is an
inactive volcano only 600 years old. Visitors can hike to
the 260 metre-high summit and take in 360-degree views of
the Hauraki Gulf, or take the 4WD road train to the top.
The Island also has lava caves, unique rock formations
and pohutukawa forests for visitors to enjoy
- Waiheke Island is home
to many New Zealand artists. Self-drive art trails as
well as guided tours enable visitors to see the work of
many New Zealand artists who have made this Island home.
Vineyard experiences are also an option on Waiheke
Island. Activities such as horse riding or kayaking are
